I love pesto sauce, which is typically basil, olive oil, lemon, Parmesan cheese and pine nuts.
I changed it up a bit to make it even more healthier by substituting for avocado, nutritional yeast and hemp seeds. 

You won’t be missing the cheese here since nutritional yeast will give you a more cheezy flavor. Nutritional yeast also has vitamin B’s and protein. You can learn more about it here.

Hemp seeds are amazing and should be in everyone’s pantry. They have an impressive high nutritional profile, including a balanced ratio of omega 3’s to omega 6’s. You’ll get 5g of protein in a tablespoon. Wow, right?

Hemp seeds are similar to flax seed, but they actually contain more protein. You also don’t have to grind them as you do with flax seed. That alone makes it easier to digest.

Technically a fruit, avocados are one of the world’s healthiest food! I recommend adding more avocados to your diet. Although they are heavy in calories, those are nutrient dense calories. And the fats are heart healthy monounsaturated fats and omega-3. You need healthy fats to feel full!

This raw avocado sauce will go perfectly with any pasta noodle. I love to toss it in raw zucchini noodles or brown rice pasta. If you want even more protein, you can add in some grilled organic chicken.

Ingredients

  • 2 small avocados
  • 1/2 – 1 cup packed basil leaves
  • 1/2 cup nutritional yeast
  • 1/2 cup hemp seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic
  • 4 tablespoons lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
  • dash of black pepper
  • At least 1/4 cup water

Put ingredients in a food processor and and blend until smooth. Add water until you get a consistency that you want. (Start with about 1/4 cup)
